Many people fall into sales. Either dropping off other careers or motivated by easy money thoughts. Some believe they own a natural born salesperson persona. Maybe they are the life of the party or great conversationalists. Good sales people, the survivors, are forged by experience and training, and get to good enough if lucky.
Good enough to get a few leads. Good enough to move sales leads to opportunities or appointments. And good enough to turn opportunities into deals. But good enough is not good enough now.
A shocking number of sales people have sales books in the corner hidden by dust. Still more never strive to improve and just get along. Most still ask silly questions that kill off more leads than qualify. Questions like what does your business do? Questions pros already know. Why is this?
Most sales guys do not respect the profession. Do not know, like a Dr. knows, that continuous education is key to survival and high earnings. Learning nothing about building rapport, learning nothing about modeling the prospect and working to ideal prospect profiles, just plugging along. Sales deserves best eforts.
Study ways to improve. Analyze methods to get more leads, more deals and more cash. Spend time in the bookstore evaluating what might move your sales game from good enough to best.
